The Italian, luxury fashion house have announced that it’s never going to use fur in collections again beginning with its Autumn/Winter 2016 collection.

The brand itself manufactures, distributes and retails many collections available from the most accessable (for example Armani Exchange) to the most expensive (Giorgio Armani and Armani Privé) of which all brands will now be fur free.
Giorgio Armani said in a statement "I am
pleased to announce that the Armani Group has made a firm commitment to abolish
the use of animal fur in its collections…Technological progress made over the
years allows us to have valid alternatives at our disposition that render the use
of cruel practices unnecessary as regards animals. Pursuing the positive
process undertaken long ago, my company is now taking a major step ahead,
reflecting our attention to the critical issues of protecting and caring for
the environment and animals."
Armani has previously been critised for the use of fur, e.g. in 2008 PETA condemned the designer for using rabbit fur in baby coats.
The news from the fashion house has gained a lot of
support from animal protection groups, such as UK Group Respect For Animals
which director Mark Glover stated ‘We are delighted that such an influential
company in the fashion business as Armani has become a Fur Free Retailer and
they join many other compassionate retailers in the UK.’
The Humane Society International called this move “probably the most
powerful message yet that killing animals for their fur
is never fashionable.”
With the likes of Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Stella McCartney who
abstain from using real fur and leather in collections as well as Hugo Boss who
banned using real fur and angora wool in 2015, The Group Armani is latest to
behave ethically.
